Nelson Pessoa is undoubtedly one of the greatest equestrian champions of all time!
In addition to five Olympic Games and nine World Championships, he has achieved an impressive seven victories at the traditional German Jumping Derby in Hamburg-Klein Flottbek - a record that no one has ever achieved.
He was the first rider to win the German Jumping Derby with the same horse three consecutive years! In addition, Nelson Pessoa has also recorded two victories in the Grand Prix of Aachen and three victories in the English Jumping Derby in Hickstead. Just unbelievable!
Nelson Pessoa has been the only non-European European equestrian champion since 1966, as until this year non-Europeans were also allowed to compete in this championship.
